quizking_87 May 23, 2005 11:38 PM

I have had an eastern garter for about a week. When i first got it it was perfectly fine. Now it is as mean as can be and i dont know why. I have him in a cage by himself. I also have a Ball and an earth snake and they are perfectly fine. i have tryed to feed him and he wont eat so i might not be feeding him the right thing. I am used to working with pythons and Boas. Any suggestions??????????????????/

How old / big is it? What are you trying to feed it? Is it wild caught?

Wild garters normally eat a lot of amphibians. In order to get them to take prey like rodents you have to scent them with prey items normally consumed by the snake. Try rubbing a worm or frog on an appropriately sized rodent.

Garters eat earthworms too. Do you have a bait store nearby? If not, lift a few rocks Fish are eaten too - goldfish from walmart or bait minnows should work.
