Oregon Great Basin

DeanBright May 24, 2005 12:56 AM

We went to eastern Oregon this week end looking for v. lutosus. The weather was much better than 2 weeks ago. we had sun and up to 84 on Saterday but no luck at the area we were looking. We did see 2 Great Basin Gopher snakes and 8 Yellow-belied Racers.
Sunday we went back to the place were we found one v. lutosus last time, dispite the cold,no sun and 52. The sun came out and it warmed up to 63 around noon. By 1 we had seen 7 lutosus. There were lots of lizards runing all over mostly Side Blotched and Fence.

Enjoy, Dean

The first two photos are of the only mature snake, about 30 inches. The others were 10 to 20 inches, one of them was the same color as the first one and the others were the lighter phase. Here are some more photos of the two colors. Dean
