Veronica - how's the rescued girl?

lele May 24, 2005 08:47 AM

Were you able to figure out what the eye problem is? Hope it is curable and that she os OK.

How did the silkies do on their rehydrated leaves?

I don't have the beardie with the eye problem yet ... she should be arriving later on this week.

The silkies did great on the rehydrated leaves. They have spun cocoons now and some have developed into moths and are busy laying eggs. One thing I noticed about the silks on the leaf diet, the silks were slightly darker in color than the other silks on the chow diet. It wasn't something I noticed right away, it took some time to develop. I'm wondering what that means. But when I compared a chow eating silk to a leaf eating silk, the leaf eating one was slightly darker. Like an off white, instead of a bright white. Weird. Any ideas?

Hugs,
Veronica

I find a bit of variation among them anyway. Since Luna had stopped eating when I had the adults I kept them (want to use them for drawing) so have a bunch all together. Sometimes the wing veins are more pronounced and sometimes the whole moth is a little darker. I would not worry about it, the fact that they went full cycle with no problems is indeed good news! Now, have we figured if it is actually cheaper than chow? Ceretainly more convenient! Would still want to find out about pesticides. I know the company you got them from said organic but I have to wonder about regulations on imports to the states.
