2 whites not eating

bmwoodley814 May 24, 2005 10:35 AM

My financee has 2 white's tree frogs that have barely been eating. She separated them into individual tanks with nothing but the frogs and the food, so she could see if they eat. She cleaned the tanks yesterday so I am not seeing any droppings. I am wondering if these frogs just aren't interested in the crickets and if maybe something else will get them to eat. She is upset that they are going to die. Both frogs look light green in color, one is even still quite round but the other is very skinny........please help!!!!!!!!!

HI,
It would be easier to lend advice if I had some more info. Housing, temps, humidity, and how long has she had them? Also where did she get them? Have they ever eaten in her care, and are there too many crickets in the enclosure stressing out the frogs, or are the crickets too big? Provode this info and hopefully we can help.

well, as far as the housing their original tank was a 30 gallon tank in the living room, they are now each in there own 5 gallon quarantine tank. I live in Florida so inside the house its about 75 degrees and the humidity says about 50, I was told dumpy's didnt need much as living in florida our temps were pretty much what they have gotten used to. she has had them for at least 2 or 3 months, one definately longer over 6 months. She purchased them at the same reptile show as always, and they ate ravenously in her car until recently... she had 3 one died and we took them out into quarantine tanks and they have been in there for about 3 weeks.......one used to eat but even he is no eating anymore. we put 4 or 5 crickets in with them at a time and they are medium (1/2) almost a little smaller than what they did eat... please help.

Well, I know this probably isnt what you want to here, but I would make a vet appointment. There isnt a whole lot you can do if the frog's arent eating, so some professional advice is needed. Frog's that are losing weight is a bad sign. My guess is that the newer frogs were infected with something and have passed it on to your older frog. You did the right thing in quarantining them. Make a sure their enclosures are lined with moist paper towels and their water is dechloinated and changed daily. I would also recommend raising the humidity by about 10-15%. Other than that, there's not much you can do with out a vet visit. Sorry to hear this. Hope it all turns out well. Let me know what happens. Good Luck.
