20 inch nelson about how old?

TwoSnakes May 24, 2005 12:44 PM

Hi
A 20 inch albino nelson that has allways eaten well should be about how old more or less or I am asking something impossible to figure out?
I was thinking about a year old.
Thanks

It would be less than a year old. I would say that your nelson was hatched from a second clutch last year which would put the hatch around Sept. of 2004. Hope this helps.

It's probably more than a year old. Nelson's are about 10" at hatching. It would take some time for the snake to double in size. Even if it has "always eaten well," if it were fed once a week, it wouldn't grow very quickly. Nelson's tend to be late breeders, often not hatching until September or October. I'd say you have a Fall of 2003 hatch date on your snake.

Thank you both for your replies. After reading them both I am going to average it to around a yr give or take slightly which is a lot of help for the info I wanted.
Thanks

A 20 inch Nelson's milk snake should be a 2004 hatch, or a very slow or underfed 2003 hatch.
