lighting 2 bulb ??

small_town36 May 24, 2005 01:30 PM

I have a cage that i built with two lighting holes at the top i am wondering what bulbs i should use for heat in both my domes. The cage is 30" x 30" x 6.5' tall. i am think like two 75watt bulbs but i dunno for sure. what would someone do for proper lighting in a cage like this. It is full mdf board with 5' strips cut out of each side for screen and front is screen. I need a lighting setup. And another question is do i need more light along the side or is a couple at the top enough.

It is really hard to suggest a light by wattage as so much depends on your particular room and setup. With that much solid siding and top on the cage it will stay warmer than a screen cage. I don't think you'll need 2 heat spots at all, as you want the cage to have a range of temps rather than one temp overall. I would try several different wattages and measure the resulting temp right at the basking perch. When you get the temp you want, that's the right bulb to use. Where is your UV light going to go, along the side somewhere? As for needing light along the sides, watch your plants. If their lower branches lose leaves and turn brown and the plant is only green at the very top they will want more light down lower. This will encourage the cham to use more of the cage too.
