I just mixed my first tub of the season for incubation. I noticed the vermiculite has a chemicaly type smell to it almost like paint, but not as strong. And only when it is wet, the dry vermiculite doesn't smell. Is this normal?
Thanks

wow.....did you think of that all by yourself?.....
better take a break ................
Most vermiculite does not have asbestos in it... vermiculite alone isn't toxic.
Yes, most vermiculite these days is "relatively" safe, however, dust particles in the lungs are irritants that can result in repiratory problems. This goes for just about any kind of dust. I think that's the point Yoda was trying to get across.
