Is it ok to use vita sand for my collard lizard?
calci sand and others are not good for your lizards. Some of these expensive, new fangled sands they sell are just that expensive, new fangled and a waste.
Go to home depot and get a 50 lb bag of WASHED play sand (the kind you would use in a childs sand box) for about 4.99 looks good, lasts long, no crazy additives that are harmful.
This is just MY opinion. Although Calci sand is proven to be BAD!
Good luck , you can always ask the SAND MAN tonight, hehehehe LOL

That's very funny because the girl at the pet store recommended getting calcium sand. Now I’m confused. I'll probably listen to you since you been around collard lizards for a very long time. If you lizards have been living on this stuff for a while now then I’ll listen to you. I don't want anything bad to happen to this one.
calcium sand is a nice idea but the particles are too large and they can cause impactions and death. i have not figured it out why people still recommend it either. i think it has to do with the green stuff in our wallets
my guys love the playsand too

LOL. Any sand that is not "specially" made for reptiles should be good to use :O) These specialty things are just that...People at pet stores that use it and recommend it should be forced to eat a fistful of it just for good show.
I knew a girl that kept her leopard geckos on that colored calci-sand...it looked neat in the tank, but her lizards bellies were all stained red from it. When it gets wet, the color leaches out. That can't be good either.
They get plenty of calcium in their supplements...they don't need to be climbing all over it :O)

just for the heck of it go on the bearded dragon forum and don't ask about collareds, just a general question asking what people think of calci sand , okay ?
Come back and let me know what they say! LOL
