Am I the only one who is "poor" and sometimes has to sell a boa to buy a new boa?

We always say how funny it is that we think spending $40 for a pair of pants or $80 for a pair of shoes is WAYYYY too much money, but don't blink at spending $500 or even $1000 on a new snake. Why would I want to spend $13.99 on new CD when I can burn a copy of my friends, but hey, that $400 pastel boa sure looks nice in my new $300 Vision cage with a $125 thermostat keeping the temps right. It's funny to think about people's perception of "expensive" is when it come to hobbies and thinkgs you are into. I guess every hobby is like that, but most hobbies don't get the broad spectrum of odd reaction when you tell them what you do "for fun". Great topic!

Poor? Me? What? Just because I take the bus to work? (hey, a $30 month pass is cheaper than $80/month in gas! Actually I am driving again now that the temps are over 100 here in Vegas.) I don't think I've bought any new clothes that cost more than $20 since.. when did I start this hobby? ..1998. I love Savers!

I almost never sell off my snakes, although I am trying to thin out a little from my collection right now... things are so slow in the markey I haven't gotten much response.

I get the lecture from my boyfriend all the time "if you want to breed why do you only have one BRB? If you want to focus on boas why do you have corn snakes?" blah blah blah. (I never tell him he has too many fish tanks!) My plan has been to take a year or two off and not bring home anything new or even mention anything new and then I start joking around and showing him pictures "isn't that a nice boa?" "hey, don't you think that is cool looking?" and after a week or so of that he is pretty worn down and will finally say "ok" when I ask if I can get one. So I may own an anery soon.. keeping my fingers crossed!

I do wish he was more into the hobby tho, I try to talk about morphs and breedings and his eyes glaze over. I don't know anyone that is into snakes, just these forums to feed the addiction. I have to go join the local club!

On a related note tho, I have a very hard time letting go of a snake once it is in my collection. The albino sibling I kept, that is very light from my "bad" litter in 2003, I was going to sell or trade. After talking to others I figured I shouldn't since I can't guarantee her health, so my boyfriend keeps telling me to either get rid of her or put her down ("you have too many snakes" "why keep her if you won't breed her" "just takes up space" ) but I just can't bring myself to get rid of her.
I am hopeless.

10 years from now I will be alone in a house with 4 snake rooms.
haha
HAPPY HERPING ALL!
