Hi,

My name is Casey and I am interested in getting either a Chinese Water Dragon or Australian Water Dragon. Does anyone have any insight for me which is better as a pet? Also, could someone give me the best info on the care for one of them. I have several years experience with lizards, but never owned a Water Dragon.

Hi Casey. I'm Mike and welcome. This is a good place to get and share info. Ive had an Ig, a Monitor, Beardie's, several types of geckoes and assorted other oddballs which somtimes I have had to ask the folks here at Kingsnake to ID. My favorites have been my 2 Chinese WD's. Except when the female is full of eggs they are friendly & easy to handle. As far as feeding, my male likes calcium dusted nightcrawlers and my female likes hopper sized mice (pre-killed). Go to the trouble to set them up right and they are hardy and easy to care for.

They are both great pets...Aussies are a bit calmer and hardier, but with proper handling and set up both species are good pets. They do need a ton of space, at least 400 gallon set ups. My trio of CWD had a 11x7x5 foot jungle room all to themselves.
