Snake not eating/acting weird

britbiker May 25, 2005 09:12 AM

My snow corn has always had a good appetite, either for pre-killed or live mice. However, recently I gave him a thawed/ warmed mouse and he ignored it. He kind of sniffed it, and then left it alone. Next, I tried a live mouse. LIke most corns, my snow is always quick to devour a mouse. However, this time he let it roam around withot any interest. Or, he actually came face to face with it and practically rubbed noses without doing anything. This morning, the mouse was died, but not eaten. My snake has seemed a bit hyper lately, but I presumed it was because of spring and the rising sap of youth.
Should I be concerned? Suggestions?

Mine was doing the same thing. He would cruise around his tank all day and wasn't very interested in food. He'd eat a little, but only if I bloodied and then teased him with the item. I'm told this is commom for males this time of the year, while looking for a mate. I wouldn't worry about it unless he starts showing other signs of being sick.

could just be spring or that your snake is going to shed. only twice before shedding (both times in spring too) my snake refused food.

i'd say give the snake a day or 2 off without offering food, then on the 3rd day, offer it.

also, remember it is risky to leave live prey alone with your pet! mice can be really mean & bite!
