How long till corns eat after egg laying???

Colorfulcorns May 25, 2005 01:18 PM

My female corn just got done laying eggs and she had a very rough time.
She laid 19 eggs over the course of about 5 days and only 2 of the eggs look good. But all are in an incubator just in case, this is my first time.
How long do they wait to eat after laying???
I should start with a smaller mouse, right???

I offered a smaller size prey to mine the next day. She did fine, also make sure you let her be for a week or so. Just my opinion.

She started eating today but she would only take pinkies, she ate 5 of them. It looked like that took alot out of her.

I always like to dust some extra calcium suppliment on food for my egg-laying herps in the spring and summer. I want their bones to get plenty of calcium since so much of it has to go to the eggs. Just a thought for you, especially if you're snake wants smaller food for a while (smaller prey equals smaller bone density equals less calcium intake for the snake).

Mine laid her eggs last Friday night, and she ate a fuzzy/hopper on Saturday when I found the eggs. I fed her a mouse on Wednesday, and she is back on her regular schedule now.

I have some pictures of the eggs and stuff on my web site. I actually just put a bunch of new pictures on my site today. Check it out: http://herphaven.no-ip.com

Some of the eggs are puckered in a bit.. but I candled one of them and it looked good. The eggs were laid just in her tank. I thought the mom wasn't actually gravid.. boy was I wrong- 17 eggs for her first clutch!
