I'm glad you guys have postive experiances with Petco. My petco up north sucks! They have about 10-12 leopard geckos in a tank equivelant to a 10 gallon. They are all different sizes and piled up on eachother. There are mealworms in the bowl but the problem is that none of them are moving! It is sooo sad, and I only go in there when I need to get something very specific. It seems that a chain with all that money could make all their stores very nice. It is too bad for the animals involved.

First, you have some corporate run and some franchise stores. The corporate run stores are all going to be run according to corporate policy, but this is NOT a guarantee that the individuals hired to work there will be knowledgeable, nor that corporate has all the right information.

Franchise stores, on the other hand, will have differences from corporate stores....they could be much better, or much, much worse. If you want to find out what's really going on with PetCo, first ask if it is a franchise, or a corporate store. If it is corporate, and you notice serious problems, then you can contact the corporate headquarters to report them, and this may actually result in corrections. If it is a franchise store being run badly, there is little you can do but avoid it. A well-run franchise store deserves support, like any other privately owned pet store that is doing things right.

Don't let the name alone fool you.
