PICTURES: GECKO EATING SNAIL

Mad_1234 May 25, 2005 06:07 PM

I have been on a photo taking frenzy so I took my female Uroplatus pietschmanni out to my maple tree today to see if I could get some pictures of her eating a snail(her favorite food). I was kind of doubtful she would take it since it was daytime but she did. Here are the picture:

Taking her outside

Look carefully, you can see both the gecko and snail in this picture

Focusing in for the kill

Got it!!!

I thought snails were great sources of parasites and all sorts of carriers of bad "bugs" and such??

Do they eat the shells too???

I also fed my Uros snails and didnt have any problem wiht parasites, if your worried just keep the snails in a clean container for a cuople of days and feed the som clean lettuce och leafs. My females were especially intrested in them during the matingseason, its good for them woth the extra calcium in the shells when developing eggs.

Best regards

In the wild I assume uroplatus most likely eat snails so why shouldn't it be in captivity too? Neil Meister, the most well Uroplatus breeder in the world has fed his Uroplatus field collected snails for years and has had no problems with them.
