That is gorgeous!
What is the common name (for the idiots amongst us)?
n/m
West: Read the original post again, then smack yourself in the forehead. The snake is a Bardick, an Australian snake with a very limited range in the southwestern portion of the continent.

Greg,
There are actually found in three separate populations along the Southern Half, one in the far South West, One on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia and one in the North West of Victoria and extreme South West of NSW.
That individual is from Esperance, which is in the far South West Pop.

Scott Eipper
My old edition of Cogger's Reptiles & Amphibians of Australia only shows it in the one small area roughly near the southwestern tip of the continent. The book first came out in '75, & was reprinted & revised in '83, so glitches like that do not come as a big surprise. I appreciate the heads up, though.

Scott: Maybe you can help me remember the name of a species of snake I found on an island in Australia. I was just off the coast of Perth called Rottnest Island. I encountered a small snake which if I recall correct, it was the only snake on that particular island according to the guide book. It was venomous and I think had a black head and tan body but cannot remember much about it. Thanks if you have any information.
Fantastic Scott...Never saw one of those before.
Cheers!
Al
