I concur. I think 48" is far too large for an adult chondro. I keep my adults in 24" sub adults in 15" and neo's in small tubs. My chondros eat, shed, def, breed and lay eggs in 24" cubes and these animals are not forgiving for poor husbandry.
Trooper Walsh (the godfather of chondros) uses tubs. Lots of zoos use tubs, lots of breeders use tubs i think tubs are GREAT for Chondros.
I know alot of keepers and breeders who tried using large enclosures and found that Chondros pick one spot and rarely move from it. I know this is fact with my small collection of 12 Chondros. Honestly i think the only reason they do move is to adjust them selfs, looking for food or looking for a mate. I do suggest taking chondros out every once and awhile and giving them a nice strech.
