photo of chondro teeth?

manakawari May 26, 2005 03:59 PM

i once remember seeing a pic on the web a long time ago, before i bought my chondro.the pic was a closeup of a chondros mouth.it showed its large fang-like teeth very well.now that i think about it,maybe it was a emerald tree but who knows.anyway,id like to see a pic of a chondros teeth again.i have never seen my snakes teeth but i know they are there by the blood that dripps on the floor when hes eating.ha ha ..if anyone knows of a site or link they can post,id really appreciate it.also,im wondering about alternatives to feeding my snake ,other than mice.well actually other than rodents.has anyone ever tried birds???id like to try it but am unsure of what type or i was thinking ,since they are the natural food source, after he eats one,he may go off mice altogether.any thoughts? id just love to see him take a bird in flight. im sick i know

I wouldn't feed quail. I was thinking of this thinking that quail may be more like their natural diet. But when I did research I found out that the majority of a wild chondros diet is really more arborial rodents than birds. so a rat really is just what it needs to be eating in captivity.

also i've been told bird crap STINKS!!! If you think that it smells bad after they pass a rat just wait til you get to a quail. and birds cost more.

The picture your referring to was an etb, gtps do not have the large fang like teeth. Gtp bites arent too bad I compare it with the same amount of pain as being smacked with one of those wire dog brush things.

I agree rodents>birds

Mike... chondros do have large fang like teeth, they just don't hang out on the outside like an ATB's will. They are not realy any longer than any other snakes' teeth, it's just that they are angled straight down at a near 90 degree angle. This helps them catch something mid-flight.

Well, "their teeth are nothing like the huge front fangs possesed by Emerald Tree Boas"

This is one of my boys.. I had gotten the birds for some WC Emeralds and didn't need them. So I put them in Whybe's cage, he's 8 and has never had live food and for weeks seemed to get along with these guys that is until one pooped on him lol came in one afternoon to see this, he ate all 3 of them.

Emeralds have bigger teeth and can be more inclined to use them lol.

Yeah they like birds, I never denied that, but their poop stinks a lot more and they really eat a higher percentage of arborial rodents vs birds in the wild.

Chondubrid I wasn't commenting on what they prefer in the wild was just posting a photo and saying they like birds. Especially seeing as the animal in the photo thinks live rodents are demons lol and wont go near them but sure had no problem taking down the birds. Sure know one thing if you snake is a Little constipated a bird will sure loosen them up. I know one thing when I get an Emerald or Chondro that doesn't want to eat. First I try gerbils and hamsters and if they don't work birds seem to. Randy

Chondro bites don't hurt, but they do bleed. Emerald bites...well, I got tagged by a yearling ETB and it was the worst bite I've had. As for as seeing the teeth...I can try and get a shot of my yearlings, but it may take some time to do so, as I'll need atleast 1 person helping me lol.
