Juvi Crested has escaped! Help.

3-three-7 May 26, 2005 06:01 PM

I have had two cresteds in one enclosure for about 6 months. Recently the smaller one escaped, but was just sitting on top of the cage. So I placed him back inside, and found where I thought he escaped from. I covered over the hole.

I came home from work this afternoon, and he has escaped again. This time he is not just sitting on top on the enclosure. I can't find him anywhere. I've looked all over my home office desk, cleaned up all of the clutter, and still no sign of him. Where might a juvi crested seek cover in a house. I know they are quick when the want to be, but I can't see him making it too far from the enclosure. Any tricks to get him out of wherever he is hiding? Is it possible the bigger guy ate him???

It is possible that the larger one ate him
but how big is the larger one and how small
is the smaller on?

also id look close the door to the room
he go out and seal the bottom with a towel
or somthing. Just rip the place apart

Be careful not to step on him or squish him while searching. I had a baby get loose thought I would never find him/her (2 inches of gecko is hard to find lol) but lucky enough my cat found him and didn't eat him (good thing they can climb walls otherwise the cat would of ate a $100 meal)

Good luck

Check your closet my iguana seems to like climbing and sitting on my shirts when I let him run around.

Well, the enclosure is in my living room. Its kindof open concept, so I can't seal any door cracks. How far do you think he could of gotten? He usually just finds a dark spot and stays put. The big guy is approx 4", and the missing one is about 2.5". How long will he live if I don't find him right away?

Put out a glass jar with small crickets inside it (clear glass of course). Put in near to where his cage is. Also a small dish of water or a moist hide where he may crawl into over night. Also check underneath your desk in all the crocks and cranies.

Okay. I don't belive this. After a few days I figured, he either was dead, was hiding in a dark corner where i'd never find him, or he was eaten by the big guy.

Today is Saturday the 28, and he went missing on wendnesday the 24th. Well, I found him in my kitchen on one of my dinning chairs(which is pretty far from the cage). I just looked down, at the chair and it was sitting there. Waiting for me to pick him up. I put him back in his cage, resealed any possible escape routes, and fed him really well.

He's still actually looking for food after 10 crickets.

What kind of substrate do you have in the bottom of the tank. Several of mine will bury themselves in the substrate and it is very hard to find them. Likely he did get out again but that is also something to to consider before you tear your room apart hunting. Oh and look behind pictures, clocks or things hanging up on the walls.
