Anyone ever have early eggs that are good?

ErikH May 26, 2005 07:26 PM

One of my red milks laid a clutch of 4 late tuesday night, only 6 days after her shed. She usually takes 10 days or more. One was a obvious slug, and I figured the rest probably were too, since they came so early.I almost thought about tossing them, but I set them up in some vermiculite anyway.I just candled them and 2 definately show blood vessels, and I think I can see some in the third one.How often do early eggs turn out to be good?
I have her in with a male now,a different one though, and they are breeding, this is the first time I've tried to get any red milks to double clutch, she still has really good weight and doesn't look skinny like they usually do after laying,so maybe she'll go again.
Here is a pic of her taken several years ago.

depends on how you define "early"! My pyros so far this year have averaged about 6 days for GOOD eggs. Not typical, but it's what has happened so far. Some bad eggs came earlier than that, as early as 24-48 hrs after the shed.

The appearance of the eggs would be a lot more meaningful indicator of whether or not they're good, than the timing, imho.

glad you got some good ones.
