Is there something wrong with the eggs??

johndoe10688 May 26, 2005 08:36 PM

Right now as i type i am whitnessing one of my female satanics lay an egg! I also just found one on the floor of the enclosure. When i picked up the one from the floor it was very goo-y, is this because it was just laid or because it is bad? Right now it is laying another egg on a leaf. These are my first eggs and i just have a feeling the are no good........unless them being squishy is a normal thing......thanks for any responses.

I'd say they are infertile,if they are goopy and soft their no good.I've had lots of infertile eggs and their always layed out in the open,on top of things in the tank, the first fertile ones I got were layed under a leaf perfectly formed, not soft or goopy.

yea, you might wanna consider leaving those inferts in the cage, sometimes they'll eat them to get back some of the nutrients they put into making them, even though they arent viable.

I tend to like my cages egg free if there are infertiles. They will smell over a two day period (atleast mine do). I do not see many reasons for them to eat it. I don't agree that they eat them, I've never had any animal eat their own eggs after laying them.

all of my phelsuma eat the dud eggs, and all of my leaftails eat the duds.after my good eggs hatch i throw the shells back in the cage great source of calcium.i also leave my duds in the cages.

Well then....

My animals are either screwed up or I have no faith in them. I tried it with monitors and anoles they never touched them. I'm gonna have to try this now. I'm not the most experienced with Uroplatus but I'll have to see how to make all this work then. I'll see what they do. I've got some egg shells laying around so we try it.

i've never had my lineatus eat them. over 4 or 5 bad pairs of eggs left in for more than a week each time....

my monitors used to rip them open and let the house stink up. It was nasty. I tried it with them but it never worked. Oh well. Maybe I try with the Uroplatus on the next round. Some should lay soon.

my blue tegu LOVES scrambled eggs, never tried raw ones though....

My black tree monitors and my mangrove monitors loved scrambled eggs too. Smaug my big daddy mangrove, 5.5 feet long and 15 pounds, could eat almost a dozen eggs before walking away. My mother hated it when I would start making eggs for the lizards, and that was atleast once a week. They would eat 3 dozen between all of them. Thats when I had monitors though. Now, I just have too many fricking leaf tails. LOL. send me a message and I'll send you some photos of smaug. you'd get a kick out of him. total sweetheart he was. He slept inbetween my matress and pillow top mattress. I don't know how many times I woke up to a tongue flicking me in the ear...

i keep my shells from hatchlings just for proof that i actually hatched them out and didnt just say so. but if i ever needed a reference, i guess i could just tell them to check the logs here.

Yeah, I was just spraying my Mossy tank and my female dropped an infertile egg on her branch as soon as i started spraying and she ate it 2 minutes later.
