.....backyard herping....a Clelia ... Mussurana....

regalringneck May 26, 2005 11:47 PM

....Tonight I simulate the mutualistic relationship that has long existed between the Cribos (Drymarchon) & the Cribos (Clelia) & the aboriginals of Central & South America...
These natives grain storing rooms must have attracted native rodents & later...european rattus...& these rodents attracted the ill tempered Bothrops or fer de lance...both of these "cribos" will prey upon these nasty vipers.
I thus suspect & thus hypoth...-eculate...the comparative gentle demeanor of these taxa of ophidians towards us is perhaps [in part?] due to a selective process w/ Homo. ? [I agree theres alot of jungle currently w/ gentle "cribos" & few of us to sculpt their behavior... but we dont know how many Homo were there {for thousands of years} & whot-the-L...I like the notion nevertheless!]
So... I slip out to njoy a Heineken... w/o mooonlight...ever the camera @ the ready...whoa...wait what is this freshly waxed thing...that chimena is 6" across by 10" @ the neck...

This Clelia had just ingested a f/t DoR coachwhip larger than itself 7 days ago. Thus Im wary of [as its dark] but not expecting... to take a feeding bite.
I am astonished to witness & document its attempt to deface a deity...

I swallow the cold beer...rapidly...pleading for forgiveness...the aztec spirit can be cruel...ii can also be forgiving...I am grateful when I am able to terminate the simulation & without mishap return his/her majesty to her tub...

Cleia shots are rare...please dont look to me for a source; just google up Doug Taylor Reptiles.

Now heres a call for help...back in ~ 8.2002 Glades sold 11 of these monsters [C/B in Argentina]. I know what happened to 6 of them, I have 1. ~ 5 remain out there somewhere. Good old... Glades...ever willing to be of service [hhrrrummph] wont produce the buyers for me...Can anyone provide a lead to the current owners?

Cheers, RxR

An awesome Xenodontine. I have no idea where the others went, but love the one you have. If you get any other pics, especially closeups of the head, let us know..and thanks
