Where can I buy rare pythons?

Tormato May 27, 2005 12:20 AM

Hi,
I have no knowledge of the importing exporting business, but I have a Q.

Where do breedings get their rare snakes? Say I wanted to buy a pair of boelens pythons- where would you suggest I look? Or timor pythons? How can you acquire these snakes wild caught? Im not sure how protected boelens would be, but for the most part I just want to know how breedings get their rare wild pairs of pythons?

Thanks,
john

If you have an opportunity to attend one of the bigger expos like Daytona for example most of the top breeders, importer/exporters will be there. If they do not have what you are looking for I am sure they will be able to point you in the right direction. I would not shell out hard earned cash to a stranger for a wild caught snake with no garuntees. Patience is also going to have to be a major factor. Once you talk to someone you feel comfortable with, let them know you are serious and have the cash to make the buy whenever they can get thier hands on what you hoped to find. If possible place a deposit and get on a waiting list and ride it out til you get what you wanted. I have waited well over 6 months for some not so rare snakes and when you finally get exactly what you want it is easy to see it was well worth the wait. I must tell you though, I saw just about every snake you could name at Daytona last year including Boelens and Timors. Another benefit of being at the Expo is seeing what you are getting in person as opposed to a picture. Good luck Tom Stevens
