Heat panels Good? Bad? where can I get them..

rubbadadolphin May 27, 2005 12:54 AM

HI All,
I want to first off thank all of you for your years of hard work on this one of a kind serpent and years of continued sucess, i've learned alot from all of you. I'm a Varanus junkie but ya gotta love all aboreals.

My question is this, Where does everyone buy the heat panels I see in some of the cages, like Jim over @ cool critters and Jeff over at boaphile. Are they simpy flexwatt with a pretty housing? i'm trying to find some cheap for a series of cages i'm building but i can't seem to find a good source for them.

Thanks for any and all feedback I get.

Cheers
ROb

Cheap and good are not synonomous in very few things, including heat panels. I really don't know how they're built, but it's a lot more than flexwatt. Personally, I would never use exposed flexwatt as heating.

I have 4 cages that measure approx 4'Lx2'Dx2'H. I have one pro products panel, ran me about $90. The other three I got from LLL reptile, they are helix panels. I could have gotten by wiht the small panel for $60. The main disadvantage to the helix panel is that you will have to let it outgas, or stop smelling before it can be used. A pro panel can be used right out of the box. Pro panels also come with much better warranties, and I like the way they're made a lot better. But thats my opinion.

web site, they have panels that are around 30 bucks or so and seem to work pretty well. Most of mine are made by Pro Products but I bought a few of these from BAH and ya can't beat em for the price.

I don't like those cheapos from BAH. They're really not made well, and to me i'd at least spend a few extra bux and get a helix.
