I posted this question in the insect forum but I think this one gets more action. I saw some gel used for a water supply for cricket and such. Is there more to it than simply mixing gelatine and water? it almost looks too simple to pay for.

Yes water gel crystals are that easy. A very convient way to offer insects a source of water 24 hrs. I do place gel crystals in several different size containers as per use, this makes daily feeding easier. The use of a plastic jar lid is used to offer the gel crystals in the insect cage/tub. This keeps them separate form food sources.
No, I mean making it. Is there more to making at home than gelatine and water? A sort of flavourless Jell-0.
The item that is being referred to is water polymer crystals. About one ounce of crystals makes a gallon of gel. I hope this helps.
