Thinking about getting a Blood, I have some questions

jimburke27 May 27, 2005 11:24 PM

Hello. I recently was at a local pet shop and saw a very nice looking 2.5 foot long Blood Python. The owner of the pet shop said that this Blood will reach 5-6 feet long and will not outgrow a 40 gallon breeder critter cage. I personally wonder if this cage size quote for an adult Blood is true or not. I also wonder just how important that cage humidity is for Blood Pythons. I also wonder if Bloods are delicate to keep or if they are very resilient to health problems. I really like Bloods and wonder just how hard they are to keep. I already have 5 years experience in snake-keeping and have kept Corns, Pines, Black Ratsnakes, and Ball Pythons. Please post a reply if you have any helpful information. I would appreciate any input here.

Humidity is VERY important, but if they have a good setup, then they're fairly hardy. You should have plenty of experience to keep a blood... just do your research!

I wouldnt use a glass tank because it is hard to keep the humdity up.I keep my adults in a rubbermaid type container made by reptile plastics that is 53x24x16 there only thirty dollars i have never had a 7 or 8 foot blood so i dont know how they would do in one but for the average blood python this setup works great.I keep my on newspaper it is easy to clean and cheap.I have worked with numerous types of snakes and i only keep bloods now i dont think a blood is hard at all to keep they are very hardy captives the only reason i wouldnt recommend them to a beginner is the fact they can be very tempermental and controling an angry 30 pound snake can be hard at times hope this helps shaun t hacke
