Val Verde Last night...

jpenney May 28, 2005 01:30 PM

Hit 277 last night for about 3 hours...NADA! Then drove over to Juno watching the electrical storm off in the distance to the Southwest. Found this guy (pictured) crossing the road and decided to try out my camera at a higher ISO (1600) with flash and see the results. Not too bad. I wish I woulda shot some at 100/200 but the rain was comming and wanted to get some more hunting in. Shortly thereafter the rains came and BOY did it come! I figured I needed to get off of Juno before it was too late, so I made a quick U-turn and headed outta there. The low water crossings were already starting to flood out within just a few minutes. I did see one Plains rat on the way out swimming across the road. It rained like cats and dogs almost all the way home to Uvalde. So Val Verde go soaked! Maybe this week will be good for those of you headed this way. I'm headed to AZ tonight and the River Road on the way back.

Did that molossus even rattle or was he a kitten like most? I found a dor one 2 years ago in that area that had yellow in the diamonds but didn't have my camera or skin it like I should have. Here is the one I found dor north of Brackettville last summer which I did salvage and keep it's skin (yes I posted this before). The silver on her was awesome. An amazing specimen and HUGE. Good luck in Az...

Was that a film camera and then scanned, or was that a digital slr?

If it was a digi slr, what kind?

He shot it with a canon 20D digital slr @ ISO 1600 and a flash unit.

I assume that camera has changeable lens' like my Rebel Digital, Joe. Did he use a 50-55mm lens?

It is a good area for Mexican hognose. Scutulatus, glossy, longnose are usually fairly common, some subocs, atrox, viridis. Lepidus and alterna are there, but very hard to come by. There are some really pretty splendida in Hudspeth and Culberson counties also.
