$2000 hets? Are they het for solid gold?

StonedReptiles May 28, 2005 04:20 PM

Ok i'm just curious. Let's say you decide to work with a specific color of normal boas that you take a liking to. You spend about 20 years selectively breeding them to only the best of boas containing the traits you desire. After all is said and done, you have the same boas you started with that Jeff "Schmeff" could accidently pop out and sell for $70. Now you decide to breed this into the albino line that has not been around as long and has nothing to do with the traits you have been working so hard for. You give it a few years until all your hets have that similar look you have been working on. Finally because you had a couple AWESOME albinos (as every large scale breeder should), you decide to sell your little hets for $2000. Does he throw the golden gate in for free? Oh yeah, and you wrote a low quality book too, so I guess that might make your normal boas "celebrities."

It doesn't even deserve attention, and should be deleted for bashing a great breeder.

Throwing the "Low Blow" of saying he wrote a POOR quality book is outright ignorant.. That book has and will help many people, he took the time to put his ideas and experience into that book, to help others... Have you written any books lately to help out fellow herpers?? All of that information for a few bux seems justifiable to me.. As for the high priced hets, did anyone force you to purchase one??? I think not.. I don't understand, people complain when someone sells below market value, and now there's complaining because you think the price is TOO high?? This post seems to be more out of jealousy than anything.. Personally, I think Ronne toots his horn a bit also, but I woulnd't go as far to make a post complaining about HIGH prices that he IS getting for the snakes, just seems to be an empty/pointless bashing post... Quit crying and don't worry about anyone else's prices.

You are so right. Price too high - price too low - too much - too little......waaaaaahhh No matter who it is or what they do, ya just can't please everybody, huh? Geeez, can we just get a life, or what?

Regarding "tooting the horn" : I think he toots it in a spirit of great fun and humor, good sport, and tons of cheer. I'd rather see that kind of "tooting" as opposed to the sly, jealous, mean spirited boasting some are loathe to do. In fact, some like to boast about their animals while they put down other's projects. Jeff pokes fun at himself as much as he toots his horn. Besides if ya got a horn, why can't you toot it......is what I wanna know?

BTW, I loved the book too. I read it so much, and loaned it to friends who read it - so much, that now it's downright dog-eared and raggedy...like a well-loved teddy bear

what breeder would this happen to be talkin about?

StonedReptiles May 30, 2005 02:36 PM

If I had the means of taking enough time off life to write a book I would do so, and hopefully one that would be a little more accurate. The fact that any of you argued back means we will probably not find middle ground because our mentality must be different. I have a friend who has breed corn snakes his whole life, does that make him an expert? Should he write a book on it and call it truth? At least he probably knows the scientific name. Now that we all know who I'm questioning, let's question the origin of the morph. If i'm not mistaken it's imperator. I have not seen any normals from him that even resembled constrictor constrictor, yet that's what every snake is listed as. Finally, just cause you have read the book and swear by it does not mean it's good or true... a lot of people read the bible too.

This post is an embarresment to the forum.

Anyone can sell their Boas for What they Want. If you don't like it, don't GO COMPLAIN on the forum. Just don't buy them and go complain to your Mom!!!!!

Just because you think a book is cheap, shows your taste in books. I for one think the Pictures in that Book and the INFO, (while YES, outdated because it is 6 years old) are AWESOME!!!
