forgot where to find this..trying something new

harlanm May 28, 2005 04:44 PM

i forgot the site that showed how to add watered down glue and dish soap to gravel to make it stick together very well. they use it to keep driftwood submerged in aquaria. i dont remember the exact mixture.

im going to try this with bed a beast. i am going to lay a 10 gal tank on its back and mix the bed a beast with the water/glue/soap mixture. then i am going to shape and form it to the background i want and let it dry. hopefully it will dry hard and hold up well
i am worried about when the coco husk dries out though, i am thinking it may crumble. but we will see. ill post pics when i am done.

if anyone knows of that site or the water/glue ratio that may work the best please let me know.. thank you

I've used this in model railroading as well, about a 50/50 mix of H20/glue and enough dish soap to break the surface tension so it spreads better. Depending on how much you mix up this could be from a few drops to a teaspoon. This mix does take longer to dry due to the amount of water but the glue holds well. Keep in mind this was used to keep the ballast(gravel) around the railroad tracks of model trains. It may need some adjusting for the B-A-B to ensure durability if critters were to walk on it.
