Typically it's best to have an enclosure that is three times the animals total length at minimum. If you have larger species, they will grow at a much more rapid rate, so therefore should be kept in an area 5x their total length. This prevents the constant tearing down and resizing/rebuilding of enclosures frequently. While younger it is pretty self explanatory on housing. When they start getting up there in size, then stock tanks can make decent enclosures. After they have outgrown that, then it's time to make a fully fenced in enclosure with a standalone pool and basking area.

Hope this helps,

Chris
