Why is he so fussy?

Tortoiselovr May 29, 2005 09:06 AM

Hi everyone, i'm new to the tegu forum. My husband and I just got an argentine black and white tegu that is supposed to be around a year old or so. We have tried feeding him mice (all sizes, live and frozen thawed), ground turkey (cooked and raw), crickets, mealworms, several different types of dog food (light varieties) and eggs (hardboiled and raw), we have had him now for about 2 weeks or so and he will sometimes take a little bite of this or that but he's not eating well at all. He goes over, smells the food and doesn't really show any interest. He's captive bred and I know he doesn't have any parasites and he's not sick, he's in perfect health and very feisty I just wish I could get him to eat....any ideas as to how to make him eat or what else to try and feed him? any help would be much appreciated. thanks

Deb

Hi Russ, the basking temp is around 101F, rest of the enclosure is around 82F, night temps range about 72-74F

Try bringing those night temps up to 75-80 and you may see an appetite change. I see the same issue whenever mine consistantly drops below 75 at night.

tRY RAISING HIS BASKING TO 120, AND keep the night time at 75. See if this helps. Russ
