How large are your 1 year olds?

MissMiniZoo May 29, 2005 09:56 AM

I have 4 turtles...they are all approximately 1 year old. They are all different sizes with the largest being about 5 inches (shell). The others are probably about 3-4.25 inches. My smallest RES and the Southern Painted are about the same length. I can't find a ruler or measuring tape anywhere so my measurements are approximate. How large are your 1 year old RESs?

Everyone says that a turtle should ONLY grow about an inch each year....

so at this time last year, if your turtle's shell length was 2 inches, then it should only be 3 inches now.

if it's anything more than that either you have a very fast growing turtle, or you have been overfeeding him/her! If you are overfeeding him/her, that is definitely bad because this can cause internal problems with the turtle, whcih could probably also lead to death!

Hope this helps!

That one has got to be just a fast growing booger. I only feed them once a day. He is the one that eats the most out of all of them though. Their diet consists of collard greens, carrots, squash, zucchini, strawberries, and various other veggies and fruit as I have it. I alternate that with Reptomin pellets. Oh, there are feeder guppies in the tank, but they do not eat them much if at all. I usually have to get rid of some of the guppies...science teachers come in handy for that! My other turtles are probably about 3 inches I bet...I don't think they are 4, but like I said I can't find my tape measure!! I'll measure them once I find it.
