Just a thought on rude postings

bps516 May 29, 2005 11:24 AM

I hope this doesn't get erased but I refuse to turn someone's message about the loved snake they just lost turn into another arguement. I have spent years in phone and internet customer service and there can some times when people can say something they never would face to face. It is also very more likely to miss the tone that the posting is supposed to have since all normal conversation visual cues we use in face to face conversation are not there. If you (anyone) personally had a pet die would you want to read a reply that was titled "not trying to be mean, but"? If you are truely concerned why not instead say "is you other python doing ok? Sometimes an RI can be passed to other snakes that are in close proximity to each other." That shows concern for the animal and concern for the person posting. I honestly don't think that anyone on this board wants to be rude in the first place. Just a thought.

that I ignore. Sometimes they truly do make sense but because their message is shrouded by their unacceptable social demeanor, I just skip them. It's not so much what you say, but how you say it. But let's face it, some of these people just will not go away.

Jay I hope you are not directing this at me, since you have been less than polite to me in the past!

Cheers

less than positive tone. It's those with a pattern of poor etiquette that I find offensive. My motto "Help if you can, otherwise, just skip the post". That does not mean you cannot "get on" someone for being apethetic. It just means to use a positive approach, if at all positive.

I had previously decided I wasn't going to post on the subject for risk of sounding like I was being insensitive, but the truth is, this person pisses me off. They posted that they had a sick animal were told it should go to the vet did they take it to the vet? Doesn't sound like it to me. Not only did they continue to keep a healthy animal with a sick animal but they moved the healthy one in with another one right after the sick one died. It will be just short of a miracle if we don't hear of more sick animals from this person. Compassion aside, a swift kick in the butt (figure of speech wise), common sense and a ball python manual is what this person really needs. Hopefully they will learn from this mistake.

now, after reading the subject line do you come into this message completely objective or is there a small amount of defensiveness? That is all I am trying to say. I used that one post as an example . I totally agree something needs said at times with a swift kick in the rear, I think it is a matter of the kick being delivered from a steel tipped work boot or from a tennis shoe.

As for the subject line I put on this message, I was using the "completely wrong" just for an example.

I was taught that if you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all. Sounds stupid coming from an adult, but I pretty much stick to it I'm just that kind of girl. I'm not the type to give someone a hard time and am usually easy going about things. So to answer your question no, I have no reason to be defensive. I didn't post on their thread because I didn't want to sound like I was coming down on this person in their time of loss. But I completely understand why someone would use what would apear to be a harsh tone in this particular situation as the potential health of the remaining animals is still in question. I'm sorry the snake died and I feel for the snake and keeper, but I think it sould be taken as a wake up call and hopefully this time around they'll take better precautions. And you're right, for some people they need more than just a suggestion, they need a kick in the butt. And this person appears to be that way, so I wouldn't come down on people giving them the kick in the butt. Thats all that I was saying. Hopefully this makes sense. And again you're correct there are a bunch of people on this forum that just post to piss people off, and that is uncalled for, but in this particular case I'd disagree.

I went back and read my offending post and to be honest it was not at all mean.

I simply told her what she should be doing to keep from losing another snake.

Maybe you missunderstood the tone as being sarcastically mean, but that was not the case.

Get a hobby and stop critisizing people

rwoodyer May 29, 2005 04:24 PM

Tosha this isn't directed towards you.

I wasn't rude, I was honest and trying to help the person keep from losing another snake. If you have a problem with that, you are really the insensitve person. Boohoo, I lost my snake because I refused to treat it right, get real!
Maybe you think it isn't the time for the truth, maybe I should wait for the next post that says, help my other snake is dying, what should I do.

Thanks Tosha for being honest.

rwoodyer May 29, 2005 11:11 PM

I dont think you get it. I was thanking tosha for backing me up on what i posted below....

everyone gets too confused on this forum, I am convinced that everyone in the ball python industry would get along super if this forum didn't exist, but I'll keep posting on it anyway

neilm May 29, 2005 11:49 PM

You're probably right about that, but I wasn't talking about your post.
