Lunging Tegu

AlteredMind99 May 29, 2005 02:52 PM

The tegu I am going to get has an aggression problem. Once he is out of the cage he is fine and a really big baby but....he has always been fed in his cage and now whenever you reach in he charges you with his mouth open. I was a bit puzzled as he was always fed in a dish and not by hand but still he does this. My plan was to fed him always in a seperate containor, do you think this will alleviate the pronblem? If not, any other suggestions?

That should work -

My big tegu Chief used to have a real bad "feeding response" whenever his cage door was opened. A month ago I set up my back porch so he could spend most of his time out there. I put his food out before I put him outside every day so that he never sees it in my hands (he also had a hand nipping problem when I got him). He no longer charges at me when I open the cage, he just crawls over to get picked up and carried outside.
