Question on YB vs. Fire

sparke303 May 29, 2005 03:08 PM

Assuming that Yellow-bellies and Fires are different (and I think they are), has anyone crossed them yet?

My hundreds of hours of 2001-2003 cherry-picking is finally coming to payoff time...the tough part of cherry picking is that you never know what you have (or IF you have anything special at all). When I started looking for blushing backs, faded heads, and washed out side patterns, I had never even heard of the YELLOW BELLY, or the FIRE. Luckily, no one else had either!

Since we keep hearing more and more about the yellow bellies and the fires, I've started recognizing that I have compiled a pretty good collection of possible yellow bellies and fire ball pythons. The first two that I got were juvenile possible yellow bellies. Was hoping I could breed them together, but the male suffered a chemical burn (an accident by my son) and his breeding career may never happen.

The other male I have looks a lot more like a fire. I hadn't gotten any plugs from him when I put him in with the female possible YB (more for convenience through the winter than for breeding) back in November. I never even set up an incubator for them, figuring I wouldn't be seeing anything this year.

Surprisingly, I got eggs. I freaked out! The good folks at LLL probably thought I was out of my gourd as I smoked half a pack of camels waiting for them to open. It looks like I have 3 good eggs out of the bunch.

So, here's my question: IF I have a YB and a fire, what can I expect to see? Obviously, IF they are what I think they are, I might see YB's or fire's, but is there a combination of these that's been discovered yet? Might I hatch something new? Does anyone know what's been going on lately with these morphs?

Last, but not least, I'm not here for abuse. So if you don't have constructive advice, zip it.

Why not post pics of your 'Yellow bellies' and your 'Fire'and find out if they are what you 'think' they are? Eric Davies

Like Eric said....show us pics and we will tell you if you have anything....or what to expect from your eggs. You can also expect abuse if they are nothing.LOL

If proven lines were bred together, I doubt you would get a white snake.....but who knows. A true het Ivory X Fire should look awesome, even if it's not white.

We'll see. The proof is in the incubator, as they say. Some are certain to turn out to be normals, but we'll see. What is this, American Idol? Did anyone invite you to phone in your vote? Get outta hera? I never asked anyone to judge for me, just what MIGHT happen. So, once again, zip it.

If you didn't want an opinion....why did you post pics? They are definately not Fires. Show us the bellies, and we will tell you if they a het Ivories. They don't look it, but some don't from the top.

Now...... if you tell me to zip it...you're in for years of abuse.LOL.

neil, you my friend are incorrigible!!! with your witty posts and 20 inch guns...."LOL"

Sorry Sparke 303, but neither are Fireballs and do not look to be Yellow Bellies either. They are nice normals and if the snakes are wild caught or captive farmed you 'could' have a nice surprise in the clutch. No one knows what recessive genes they may be carrying. Good luck! Eric Davies

If you are sure of what you have then post a few belly shots. I personally would like to see that you have a yellow belly/ETC. So please post pictures of the bellies. Thanks david
