I have 2 racks that I used 3" Flexwatt. Where is the best place to place the Thermostat Probe???

I have 2 racks that I used 3" Flexwatt. Where is the best place to place the Thermostat Probe???

In a spare box in the rack, held down with adhesive caulk and slightly covered with the same substrate used in the other boxes. This way, the controller sees the temps that the animals will see.

The way i have done this is to put the probe directly onto the heat tape. The i have measured the substrate inside the hide boxes (for gecko's) with a tempgun, and set the thermostat according to what i want it to be. The temperature inside the hide boxes is about 2 - 3 degrees lower in the boxes than on the heat tape.
I have done it both ways with equal sucess. I would use the caulk though, a peice of foil tape is what I would use...
