question ?

casey31179 May 29, 2005 07:20 PM

Ok here's a question for you. Vane the boa in the picture only eats 100% dead medium rats in his cage with no one around and the rats have to be completely white not even a tiny spot can be on it. Is there any way I can get him eating other colors? It is really had to get solid white rats around here. It took me 2 months just to figure out why he wouldn't eat cause the previous owner never told me this was his eating habbit.
And is a medium rat enough for him sometime he goes 3 weeks with out eating cause I can't find a white one. He will not eat 2 rats in one sitting and will not eat anything bigger then a medium.

Thanks
Casey

Have you tried f/t rats. I've been using them for the last 3 years and its the way to go, and they have always been white rats.

the ones local aren't white and I don't want to order in large bulk cause my room mate freaks about frozen rats in the freezer. I don't know y she just does.

I would try warming the rat up a bit so he can sense the "body heat" of it. I use a heating pad to warm up my rats for feeding it it seems to work great. I have also gone ot wetting the back half of the rats, letting water absorb into the fur of the rat, to assure that the moisture lost from Frozen Rats is regain in water held in the fur. Don't wash the rat and loose the scent, put get the back half wet with water.
I hope this helps

on top of Hoppys always plesent advace, i do have to meantion that most of the "rat fetish" only eating particular colors is cause you are only offering those colors, if you want to get away from that increase the heat in the tank and wait 2 weeks then try again... You can get boas to eat anything! heck some of mine try to eat my hand constantly... Good luck!

I tried that I am dealing with a boa that didn't eat for 3 months cause the rats I was offering weren't white. He goes 2-3 weeks without eating alot and it doesn't faze him at all.
