rdbartlett -> Peru question!

pulatus Jul 12, 2003 10:57 PM

Richard,
Thanks for all the photos. A couple questions: Are you guiding herp trips through Green Tracks? Or if not, who, what web site? What's the best time of year to go, whats the worst? Is Iquitos a favorite area? (The town and region look amazing)

Finally, have you spotted cribos or spilotes there?

Hi Joe,
I lead herp trips for Margarita Tours-- www.amazon-ecotours.com
Our actual areas are on the Rio Apayacu and the rio Orosa, about 70 miles downriver from Iquitos. We motor down on one of Margarita's river boats and in 2 weeks spend a few days each on 2 or 3 preserves. Our trip are mostly land based, but along with walking trails by oth day and night, we take open boat rides to Cochas (oxbows) in search of caiman, water snakes, tree boas, etc.
We have not yet found Drymarchon but Spilotes are found on almost every trip.
If you have other questions I can be reached at rdbartlett1@cs.com Cheers/Dick
