Both Mites and Parasites?

rwojick May 29, 2005 08:13 PM

I have a New GTP and it has both Mites and internal parasites the parasites are currently being treated, but the mites i just discovered today. My question is should i allow the parasite medication finnish before treating the mites or should i treat the mites at the same time? she ate a small hopper on wednesday but vomited thursday overnight. I am real concerned about the health of the snake the Vet said she should be ok but that was before i descovered the mites.

In this case, I would inform the vet that your snake has vomited. It may have something to do with the anti-parasitical medication, the parasite load, etc. As far as the mites go, you can clean the caging, go to a paper towel substrate (if not already), rinse them off the snake w/ water, but I would suggest to get the vets' OK before de-miting the snake with another chemical. I believe, there is a product called Reptile Relief that contains a non-toxic miticide.

Lizardman:
I rinsed the cage with bleach soaked the snake for about an hour and the re-did the cage with new dowel rods she started shedding about an hour later and looks a ton better the sores on he body came off with the shed and she ate a hopper mouse. Things are lookign up for her. i have only found 1 mite in her water dish and it may be a leftover from pre treatment but i doubt it. The mites can wait as long as she eats and the internal parasites go away. Thanks again for you prompt response.
