How the heck did I lose my first post? Oh well...
One of my babies under ten grams, accidentally came in contact with a disinfectant while I cleaned the tank.
I rinsed him in warm weater, but his colors turned dull. He was lifeless and not breathing. I started tapping his chest (like you type numbers in a calculator) and puffing air in front of his nostrils (like you pronounce a "p"
. Had to repeat this three times, since I lost him twice more after the first time.
I wrapped him in a towel, kept him warm, and after four hours, I noticed he was licking his eyes. I put in some drops of slurry, remembering it had milk thistle and could help him clean his liver. He also needed fluids, I supposed. So I bundled him up, and put back in the tank for the night. By then it was midninght and this was all I had been doing for hours. I was beat.
This morning I woke up ready to find a dead lizard, but to my amazement, he was out of the towel, standing on all fours, and wearing his bright colors again! You can't imagine the feeling.
So, lizard CPR is possible, if the timing is right.

OMG! That's awesome that you could do that and help the poor thing. I probably wouldn't have any idea of what to do if that had happened to me, thanks for the great post.

Wow well done you saved the guy. You said you were beat but you can only blame one person, YOU! If you hadn't been so careless with the chemical that put the poor guy through that it wouldn't have happened. I never use any chemicals in around or even to clean any of my tanks. Maybe something you should avoid using!

What kind of disinfectant was this? If it was strong enough to do that to the leo, you might want to think about switching to something safer for the animals. My mom was a wildlife rehabilitator when I was little, and she used to always use a vinegar/water mixture when cleaning out the tanks for the snakes and turtles. I always use the same thing for any of my reptiles and amphibians. It's natural and completely safe.
