RES are a temperate species so do not need high temperatures. As long as the basking spot is warm - 85 - 90 degrees F or so (30 degrees C or - 2) the water temperature is not very important as long as it is about room temp or better. If you have heater I would set the temperature for 75 degrees.

If its just a hatchling I would keep the water around 79 or 80 degrees. Warmer water helps hatchlings stay a little bit healthier.

I've read to keep them between 76 - 84 ish degrees. I keep my water temp around 80-81.
