Water Snake spring fling

Mating pair, Nerodia s. sipedon. Danbury, Fairfield County, CT. First time i've seen snakes mating in the wild.

Great shot! Whats the deal with patternless sipedon? One looks black too. Are they typical of sipedon in that area? Do you have more pics? Interesting.

Finally I got this thing to work. I have tried to reply to your post since I first saw it and it would disconnect me fromthe internet. I was going to ask the same thing about the patternless?

I've seen northerns that have had patterns obscured by scummy stuff on their scales, but these are two very different colored snakes -one appears to be almost black. Very interesting. I wish we had more info about where they are from, if all in that area are patternless, if he got a ventral shot, etc....

Hey Justin most northern water snakes are patternless manly up north i have seen the same phase in Tennessee.

I knew that they were darker and had very little pattern but they almost look like a yellow or redbelly without the colorig on its underside.
