Xanthic egyptian in the classifieds

whitneywee May 30, 2005 08:12 PM

Does anyone have any info pertaining to the stunning yellow egyptian uro in the classifieds? I wonder if this color phase has been seen before or any other info.

I bought him and received him yesterday. I'm not sure if xanthic is an accurate description of him but he is entirely yellow. He's got a great disposition and ate an hour after being unpacked. I sure would like to find a female that looks similiar to him. Has anyone seen a yellow egyptian before? I'll try to post pics later. Thanks.

Lucky You!!! He is so beautiful. I wanted to buy him right away but really can't venture out into any other types of uros. I have never seen a yellow egyptian, so I think you will be searching for awhile. Post pics when you have a chance, congratulations on your magnificent new uro.

Lucky You! What a terrific addition to your animals. I am jealous. LOL I have never seen a yellow egyptian, so I think you may be looking awhile to find a girlfriend for him. Good luck to you!

Wow!
I have to say the picture is very stunning.
The ad said he was 5 years old?
How big is he?
Is he in the process of shedding?
The reason I ask is that one of my males turned bright yellow prior to a shed.

I am very curious to his coloration and to any other physical characteristics that make him identify with U.a.a or U.a.m.
Please keep us posted.
Good luck

He actually looks a lot like yours does. He's only about 12 to 13 inches so I find it hard to believe that he is 5 years old. Doesn't that seem small for 5? This is my first Uro so I might be wrong. He doesn't appear to be shedding and his colors get extremely bright when he's warm. His temperment seems to be excellent as he allows handling and will eat out of my hand. I promise that I'll post picks soon. By the way, you have a great looking Uro.

Does he have any patterns?
He truely is a standout in the Egyptian Uro world.
I am very curious to his background and development.
I considered the purchase but I had no room for him.
I thought he looked like a yearling.
Mine were about 12" at one year.
So yes, in my opinion he would be small for 5 years.
Great to hear about the temperament. Makes it so easy when they trust their keepers.

The strength of the yellow tint on the yellow Egyptians I have varies greatly with the shed cycle and of course, with temperature and mood. You should see them lighten up during courtship or combat. Even the dark brown males will turn a light ashy-gray.

Do you see many yellow Egyptians or are they uncommon?

JME Jun 06, 2005 04:56 PM

I posted a picture under the photo album section of this site. It's under "yellow Egyptian Uro." Have you seen an Egyptian that looks like this one? I was told that he was 5 years old. He seems very small for 5, what do you think? Thanks for your help.

Check out this site.

Page through it to find a picture of a stunning U.a.m.
A really great example that demonstrates the presence of the pattern, and yellow coloration and lack of tubercles on indicative of a U.a.m.
Compare it with your Uro.
Let me know what you think.

Ed,
Thanks for the link. That sure does look like my Uro. The only minor difference is the head color which is almost white on mine. Are these often available or difficult to find? I'd really like to try to find some more of these.

Thanks again,
John

John-
I could be wrong but it appears that the black neck and head seem to become apparent at breeding age.
Mine did not develop that coloration until at least three years old.
It seems to become more pronounced (more black)during the mating season, however it is still there year round.
I do have one male that has the reticulation/ netting pattern.
I'll enclose the pict.
As far as the brilliant yellow color-that seems to be rare.
What makes me wonder is that the coloration seems to be patchy-more pronounced in certain areas-mine will turn more yellow prior to a shed so upon first look that is what I thought yours was doing as well.
My hatchling was a very very pale beige until she became sexually mature
