Iguana Escaped Outdoors!!!!!!!!

SnakeFood May 30, 2005 11:09 PM

My iguana is ~2.5/3 years old and entering his first breeding season. About a week and a half ago, he broke through a screen window (he free-roamed in his own private room) in what I would guess is an effort to score some chicks.

I have looked everywhere for him, left food, put up "wanted" posters with an award, talked to neighbors. I moved an old cage of his outside in case it gets too cool in the hopes that he may return to it as a place he remembers as being warm. Called shelters & vets without any sign.

Does anyone have any other ideas? While it is quite warm now he would not survive come winter. Do you think he would stay in the area, laughing at me in the numerous trees in the area aound my townhome or is he long gone on his futile quest for some tail?

From what I have read, iguanas do not roam far from where they escape. Keep a sharp eye out in trees around your house. Let your neighbors know he is roaming the area. Good Luck!

IMO the best chance you have is to keep leaflettingg your neighborhood repeatedly for the next month. When your ig gets hungry and comes down off his tree, he might only spend a little time on the ground.

I've read that runaway igs up in trees are visible when they bend their necks to look at you on the ground. So if you survey your local trees, look for an iguana head up there.
