fasting question... not necessarily worried, just curious

Dexter6185 May 30, 2005 11:26 PM

Hi everyone

I have an adult female ball who has been fasting since late November. It is at this time she usually begins to fast, however following the prior 3 winters I've had her she resumes eating in late March, early April. Her setup remains unchanged from when I recieved her 3 years ago.

She appears very well nurished at this point, and I understand this (winter fasting) in common in balls, as in most snakes. What I am curious about is the break in her feeding routine. The only thing I can think of that may have contributed to her prolonged fasting period is the amount of food given to her last season; Perhaps I overfed her.

Anyways, your thoughts on her increased fasting time are greatly appreciated...

Thanks

Hard to say. As they get older though, many feed less. The one thing for sure, the only consistent pattern for BPs is that they feed inconsistently. If she's healthy, I would not worry.

Thanks for the response. Now that I think about it she is only about a month n' a half overdue for a meal. I guess since it warmed up earlier this year (in Chicago) and because of her consistent feeding pattern prior to this winter I was expecting her to readily accept food by now. I guess I'll wait it out!
