Hello,Glad to see somebodies posting.

DeanBright May 31, 2005 12:37 AM

Hello,My name is Dean and I live in Myrtle Creek. I joined Kingsnake and the Yahoo groop back in April and was disapointed that there was not much happening. I would like to see more Oregon postings so I am going to try to keep things going. I like all herps but realy enjoy rattlesnakes so I spend most of my time on here over at the venomus forums.
I have found several northern Pacific rattlesnake dens this spring and have made several trips to south eastern Oregon so here are some photos. I think photos are a great way to share what we see. Enjoy, Dean

My 13 year old son Morgan and I went on a trip to south eastern Oregon mothers day weekend to look for Collered lizards. The weather was not very good for reptiles, cold and rain. We would have been better off looking for salamanders but the sun did come out for a little bit and we did find a Collared lizard after all. Dean

We also found this Striped Whipsnake under a rock in the rain. He was about 5 feet long and cold.
I have more photos but I will save them for later, lets see some from someone else. Dean

I love the variation in color on those Northern Pacifics, and Collard Lizards are one of my favorites. So do you plan organized herping hunts or do you normally go with your family? Also, if you are willing, I'd love to see more pics of the Whip. Thanks, Eric-

Hello Eric,I realy like the colors on the Northern Pacifics too. I have one that is black(not solid but base color)and another one that is an orange color. Here are a couple more photos of the Whipsnake. I mostly just herp with my son Morgan but am open to going with others. Enjoy the photos I will post more later. Dean

These are the black and the orange Northern Pacifics I told you about. Not a great picture but it is what I had. Dean

It's great to hear from this forum again.
I too, started watching this forum in the hope's of seeing more Oregon post's. Had a feeling I should've kept a closer eye on it, now . Those are some great pic's. I am just now getting into some of the "hot" snake's. I've been herping like crazy for some U.Mordax Scorp's to collect. And I currently live in the Rogue Valley area.
You're right, let's keep this going. And see if maybe we can't spark interest from other's doing the same.

Really liked the collared pic, and great post.

Hi,Glad to hear from you, it sounds like you are not too far from me. We have a few scorpions here and found some nice ones over in eastern Oregon as well. Do you take pictures when you are out herping? I would like to see some photos if you have any or could take some. Here are some photos I took recently and I will post more later.

I'm just now starting to take picture's of my outing's. I really wish I'd been doing that all along. But I will be exploring out by the applegate around Father's Day weekend. I hope it warm's up some. And I'll be sure to post any good find's.
Thanx, Aaron

Hi Aaron, Do you have a digital camera? Thay are great, you can take all the pictures you want and it dosen't cost anything until you print them. You can store them on a CD and they don't take up much room. I have had my digital for 2 1/2 years now and I love it. I am going to be in Glod Hill this weekend, leaveing in about 30 min. I hope to do a little herping while I am down there. Do you have any good spots for Mt. kings? I have only ever found one, hope to see more someday. We don't have them up this far. The one I found was on my friends property in Gold Hill.
Take care, Dean

Hey Dean, My wife and I bought a digital on our last anniversary. hehe thing rock's. As far as Mnt. King's go the only time I've come across one, was like you on my friend's old property. He used to have a place out by Emigrant Lake(south of Ashland), south end out by the creek side. It was up in the hills above it. King took up residence under a lrg dog house, without a care for it's current tenent. Big, mean dude.
I've heard of other's out that way to. I think it's because the abundent supply of small reptile's, might give them a better chance to become apex predator's. There are soooooo many small lizard's of some type up there.... I've never taken the time to identify them. (3-5" in lgth, blue underside's, rigid scales)They are so numerous the grass just tremor's all around you as you walk.. Make's it hard to find the good stuff.

Anyway happy hunting,
(and please excuse any bad grammar. I work night's, haven't slept...)
