Brat! Brat! Brat!

casesilva May 31, 2005 10:05 AM

I put my chuckwalla outside in a nice screened cage during the day this weekend. It was finally nice out. He absolutely loved it, but when it was time to go in was another story. I reached in the cage and he hissed at me and whipped his tail. Little Brat!! He was so cute though.

I guess the tail whipping is a step backwards? LOL. I guess he loves you like mine loves me now =P

It is going to rain today and tomorrow, so indoors he stays. Maybe I can get him back to normal today. That was the first time that he ever tail whipped and I was nervous. The only time I was tail whipped was from an Egyptian Uromastyx and that hurt like a sucker. I must of had that in mind. Then I thought, you are only 8 inches long and you can't hurt me. I just gently scooped him up and took him inside. Of course he ran right into his rock cave for the night.

I have read, and agree with, that "real UV/sun exposure does em different than artificial lights. From several accounts from different zoos-- the story is the same. Some were "somewhat" docile reptiles when kept inside ( Gilas and yep--even Komodo Dragons ) turned wild & unruly & defensive when put in outside enclosures. Your story adds to those thoughts!

Have fun!

Still runs into rocks & all but not as bad as last year!! Her tail is plumping up nicely this year too. She has been showing some aggression with head bobs & running off young mutts so thats a great sign-- maybe she is "maturing" enough now to lay eggs. But with a totally messed up face like that-- she might have a tough time getting a date without a paper sack! I know I should back space that last sentence out & I am gonna catch he11 for it-- but hey--- shes UGLY from the left side!!

For real--- she was the attention of Mr Redtail the Stud the other day. Not sure if "entanglement" happened though !

Ducking & running for cover!!

Hi,
I was wondering what is wrong with your chuck to make her unattractive? Do you have a picture of her?

Got into his pen and got her and tried to carry her off, he actually found her out of the giant outdoor pen he has.
She must have put up a fihgt, she was left there, but was blinded, one eyed.

We were all very sad to hear but shes tough and has made it a couple years now since the incident.

David may want to elaberate on what happened, this was what I could remember.

Thats basically it--- here left eye-- left side of face -- was torn up. It got into the upper lip a wee bit too. But I am happy to say I think she will overcome it. Last year I was "Almost" -- remember almost is not "there"-- ready to toss her as she ate little & would get lost and sleep in the rain under some leaves. I hand fed her quite a bit-- now I still toss her stuff but try to let her fill up on her own. I do see her pulling & nibbling on "this & that"----- sometimes "this" are dandelions & sometimes "that" might be a stick ! ( can not be compleltlttlty serious you know).
She will make it I do believe!!
