Want to build a tank

turtle_dummy May 31, 2005 10:15 AM

As some of you may know I got my turtle from a pet store that took horrible care of him. I have managed to get him going in the right direction now. His shell is getting better. The algea and shell rot is just about gone. The only thing he doesnt have that I want him to have is a bigger tank. Due to money, space and lack of the two, I have yet to get him that bigger tank I want him to have. Has anyone built a tank for their turtles or fish or anything that could give me plans or tell me how I could go about building a tank for my little guy. I figure it would prolly be 50% cheaper to build it myself then to buy one. Eventually at the end of this summer, My fiance and myself will have a new place and I wanted to have a nice big tank for him. I know you would all say the big rubbermaid bins. Now I admit that they would work fine, we jsut have no room for anything bigger right now, and when we get our own place I would rather have that bigger cool tank for him to spend his days hopfully happy....

Any plans you may have created or found that would be good please hook me up. If you charge let me know how much. Thanks guys!!

-Keith

This isn't turtle related.......but I noticed your Corgi's name is Kaiya. One of my female German Shepherd's name is Kaiya. It's not a very common name and I thought it was cool that you even spell it the same way!

Technically you are right its not about a turtle. Its about a turtles home though. There looks to be a lot of people on this forum who have built tanks for their turtles. I was hoping to catch one of their eyes....you know? Just wanted to try a DIY project to benifit my little RES Koopa.

We actually got her like hours after we finished watching Willow. Willows wife's name is Kaiya. We got the spelling from the movie. I will have to post a pic for you to see soon.

AWWWWW your Kaiya is so cute!! My Mom has a Corgi also. Her name is Gucci. She is a bit on the plump side and on diet dog food right now!

Oh and when I said, "this isn't turtle related..." I was talking about my post about our dogs (talking about dogs on a turtle forum isn't turtle related ). I think you took it the wrong way. Just wanted to be sure that you knew that so you didn't think I was being a big jerk!! LOL

Here is a picture of my Kaiya....

I didn't take it as an attack or think you were a jerk. Just thought you were letting me know. Thanks though. I did look at your website and your dogs are cute. I was a German Shepard now!!!

Have you considered using a Rubbermaid type container? I know several people who use them for their turtles.

turtle_dummy Jun 02, 2005 05:36 PM

Yeah. I have considered them. I know that would be perfect, but as of right now I dont have enough room foor a rubbermaid bid of that size. When I do have the room I would rather have a bigger tank for him.

Building a tank will probably cost more than buying one if youre talking about an aquarium. Shopping around would be better. I found my 120 gal for $220. You can not build the equivalent cheaper than that. Instead of a rubbermaid bin, consider a stock tank if you want something large. Look at farm stores.
