dry gangrene

herper1990 May 31, 2005 10:48 AM

has anyone ever heard of dry gangrene. How fast does it spread from the tip of the tail? I think I might bring charles to the vet because the very 1/4 of an inch of his tail tip was brittle but it just recently broke off, when he whipped at me. The rest of his tail looks fine but if its gangrene I wasn't to recognize it.

Thanks

Yeah, I have heard of it and experienced it myself...we ll not actually myself but one of my I. iguana had it in the tip of his tail and exactlythe same things as you described happened. I took him to the vets who prescribed some topical antibiotic cream and it seems to have done the trick. If it is too bad they may have to amputate the infected part and a small amount of healthy tissue to try and stop the spead of it. Hope you this has helped.
