i spent the weekend up in shasta, california and made some neat finds. first i regret to say that i forgot to pack the camera
the first find for me up there would be none other than the western fence lizard.at night i found a red sided garter snake finishing up a late night swim. while rock flipping the next day(saturday) i found what my field guide tells me is an oregonXsierra nevada ensatina, never found one before very excited. that same evening i found alot of scorpions ranging from little babies to 2 inch tiny giants. on top of that the camp info office told me that there was a mother bear with 2 cubs as well as 2 big boys running around. "nothing to worry about they are no bigger than a german shepard and are only about 300 pounds". didnt go looking for those :D. anywho happy herpin, l8er

The Ensatina from that area are intergrades, I've collected them on the south end of the lake and just west in the mountains. They retain an interesting juvenile pattern as adults.
