just got my sd gophersnake to start eating eggs.. question about selling them in CA?...

herpsaremylife May 31, 2005 05:58 PM

what type of liscence would i need to start breeding/ selling SD gophers in California? And could something like my local petshop get one so they could sell my stock if i started breeding them again? and sadly, found a DOR gophersnake... it had to have been hit within a minute of me finding it because i went down that road like a minute before i found it and then my way back there she was, a real beuty too bad, really orange color.

Hey. So you are putting those quail eggs to good use, huh?
I see you're down to 2 gophers. Sounds like you have been out lookin' for snakes. That's an interesting question about the pet store- I'm curious if anyone around here knows the answer.
I checked this out last year- try the dept of fish and game web site. There is a permit, and I don't know how hard it is to get though. I never actually applied for it myself.
Talk to you later,
Janel
P.S. did you see my pics of my little capes I posted down below? Maybe sometime I'll be able to bring 'em over for you to see if you want.

awsome coloration. so, how is their appetite, have they grown since you got them? yeah, actually ive only got mom left, i gave the last baby to my older brother who absolutly loves it. he keeps it at his girlfriends house, and he's trying to breed mice now. The baby, from his description, has gotten huge. yeah, ive been prowling the woods, looking for snakes as usual. ive only found dead snakes this season though... a cali king and that gopher. hope i get to see those capes!

You need a reptile and amphibian propogation permit. dfg.ca.gov will have it, you may need to request it by mail. Costs about $40 and gophers aren't exactly high dollar, so it may not be worth it. I would check with your pet shop first, I don't think they will buy them because they are hard to sell where you can go catch one.

Have you tried feeding them mice?

i just wanted her to eat eggs, since i have a non-demineshing supply of fresh quail eggs on hand.

Oh ok, just seemed kind of strange how you said "finally ate eggs" without hearing the rest of that LOL!
